Greenbush Surf Spot

The break at Greenbush is reminiscent of perfection scribbled in the margins of your high school math homework.

An abrupt shift in ocean depth results in a solid square barrel. Framed by a lush tropical forest on the eastern edge of a large bay, Greenbush is one of the most picturesque, and rippable waves in the Mentawais. Beware, Greenbush surf spot is not an ideal break for inexperienced surfers. The unforgiving reef has claimed more than a few layers of skin from even experts who wander into the line-up. Fickle and conditions dependent, read on to discover how to score the best session at Greenbush.

Waves

What kind of wave is Greenbush?

One of the best waves in the Southern Mentawais, Greenbush is a thick-lipped, consistent, deep hollow barrel which breaks like clockwork over a shallow shelf of live coral. Be prepared for an airdrop likely to close-out or bowl out over a nearly exposed reef shelf at this surf break. Ideal conditions will coincide with a new or full moon spring tide. With near proximity to other fun breaks in the area, Greenbush surf spot is a great home base for surfers with a diverse set of abilities. Expert barrel riders (especially goofy footers) will feel right at home in the green room at Greenbush.
